9. High Line.
10. Embrace.
Notes:
After touring two years with previous album ‘Sky On Fire’, the band decided to settle down for a while. They build their own rehearsal space and studio and started writing together for a new album. With producer Erik on board, they could finetune tracks even before recording and with their own rehearsal space and studio, they had time on their hands to experiment. Which resulted in layered sounds, more subtle arrangements and better constructed songs, since there were no hits requiring the mto rush releasae another album. Guest vocals on ‘So Near You’ are done by Johan ter Schegget, former vocalist of ‘Suburbs’, in which Erik played guitar for a while.
With the writing flow still going on, they released the album, which contains an oddity: the tracklist starts with number 0 instead of 1, which means slight confusion, when skipping for the wished for song.

Notes:
Born in Gouda, she started singing at her secondary school under tutoring of music teacher John de Heij. During this period she lost both parents within a year. Meanwhile she performed at school music nights and during annual Vromannacht, playing English languaged, self written songs.
After graduating, she moved to Amsterdam for studying, bringing her to Sidney for a year studying abroad. During her studies, she continued writing songs, switching to Dutch lyrics in the process.
In 2013 she was selected for the 2nd auditionshow of ‘Best Singer-Songwriter of Holland’, in which she moved the jury and part of Holland, with ‘Dat Ik Je Miss’ (Because I Miss You), a song about loss and missing. Within a week this track hit the charts at No 1 and led to her being invited by Dutch Queen Beatrix, to perform that song at the funeral of her middle son Prince Friso, who died from the complications of a ski-ing accident a year before. She eventually didn’t win the contest.
Despite the madness, she finished her studies and then took time to record her first album, produced and co-written by Joost Zweegers (Novastar). The album was released on Friday june 19th 2015. The next day she played an emotional instore in hometown Gouda, attended by some friends and family, some of whom she hasn’t seen in years.

Stichting Gemiva - Overpeinzingen (1979).
Band: Stichting Gemiva.
Title: Overpeinzingen.

Tracklisting:
Side A:
1. Normalisatielied.
2. Moeilijke Woordenlied.
3. Ik Hoor Bij Hen.
4. En Nu Ben Ik Hier.
5. Slaapliedje.
Side B:
6. Ochtendlied.
7. Leren.
8. Mag Ik Mezelf Zijn.
9. Kinderen Van Geluk.
10. Overpeinzingen.
Notes:
Stichting Gemiva (GEestelijk MInder Valide, which translates as the nowadays quite politically incorrect sounding Foundation for the Mentally Less Able), was a Gouda based group, running several homes for mentally handicapped persons and got founded in 1967. When celebrating it’s 10th birthday, a group of workers wrote and played a cabaret program. The songs covered nice and lesser great subjects that people came across in daily life.
When in 1979 a traffic-themed playground was wished for, to be build in newly constructed ‘Swetterhage’ in Zoeterwoude, the songs were recorded professionally and released on record. All proceeds went to realize the playground.
The music is a mixture of post-hippy seventies tunes, some glamrock, a reggaetrack and even a New Wave infused track. Some stood the test of time, some didn’t. Lyrics covers subjects like equality, early shifts, lullaby etc. A true rarity, which I’ve never seen before since it’s release. Came in a black and white gatefold sleeve. Unknown number of pressings.
Gemiva later merged with SVG (Stichting Voorziening Gehandicapten, or Handicapped Facilities Foundation), making ito ne of the bigger players in the western part of Holland, mainly province of South Holland).

Notes:
After her previous album Roos reshaped ‘Gather Roses’ again, which lifted the level of the band even more. Drawing from her huge collection of old and new songs, the band arranged new songs with a strong and vivid jazz sound, with touches of Symphonica and African rhythms. ‘Hey!’ has strong African references, while ‘Boy’ is about her eldest son Yorin. The album got released on ‘Marista Records’, which also released albums by famous Dutch bands ‘Doe Maar’ and ‘De Kast’.

She played monthly gigs in café ‘Marleen’ on Singer-Songwriter nights for a while, recording songs occasionally. In 2010 she decided to compile the songs closest to her heart, picking tracks from live recordings and various sessions. Dissatisfied with earlier mixes, Phil Mills remixed several ‘September’ demos for the release, which was mastered by Michiel Cornelisse and released under Roos own name. ‘Unknown Falls’ is about African rivers, which Roos frequwntly crossed while visiting South Africa, her second home. ‘Strongest Man’ is about her former Gouda basketball-trainer, who had great influence on her musical education and who recovered from serious illness recently before the album came out. After the release, the album got great reveiews and Roos expanded her gigs to Denmark and the UK.

September - 2005 Demos (2005).
Band: September.
Title: 2005 Demos.
Released: Unreleased, 2005.
Label: Not Released.
Genre: Singer/Songwriter/Jazz
Personell: Roos Galjaard (Vocals, Guitar), Phil Mills (Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards, Bass).
Production, recording, mix & mastering: Phil Mills & Roos Galjaard @ Cryptic Recordings, Leeuwarden.

3. Ten To Two.
4. Torpor.
5. I Am Water.
Notes:
Inbetween playing with ‘Gather Roses’, which at the time became some kind of loose collective, Roos joined Phil Mills (ex-‘Nerve’) in songwriting. Inspired and monitored by him, she focussed more on playing the guitar, further developing her sound. With Phil she formed duo ‘September’, which played several gigs and recorded some demo’s, of which this selection was given to me for broadcast purposes. Unreleased in this shape, though ‘Samson’s Locks’, ‘I Am Water’ and several other tracks later emerged in remixed or live-versions on her 2010 solo-album ‘I Am Water’.
