September - 2005 Demos (2005).

Band: September.
Title: 2005 Demos.

Label: Not Released.
Genre: Singer/Songwriter/Jazz

Notes:
Inbetween playing with ‘Gather Roses’, which at the time became some kind of loose collective, Roos joined Phil Mills (ex-‘Nerve’) in songwriting. Inspired and monitored by him, she focussed more on playing the guitar, further developing her sound. With Phil she formed duo ‘September’, which played several gigs and recorded some demo’s, of which this selection was given to me for broadcast purposes. Unreleased in this shape, though ‘Samson’s Locks’, ‘I Am Water’ and several other tracks later emerged in remixed or live-versions on her 2010 solo-album ‘I Am Water’.

Notes:
Early 2008 keyboard player Rex Wierenga left then Gospel-outfit ‘Higher Purpose’, followed in the summer by singer Tabitha Kraaijeveld (Studies). The rest of the band decided to change direction into a more worldly one. In this transitional period they changed their name to ‘Handsome Poets’ and mixed more and more new material into their old setlists. A neighbour from their rehearsal space, former ‘Suburbs-’, ‘Jaya The Cat-’ and The Hague area session guitarist Eric Schurman, liked what he heard and offered to mix and master their EP. Which was released in a cardboard sleeve, designed by the band themselves. Following the release of the EP, Nils Davidse on keyboards was added and they played numberous gigs, both in worldly and in religious surroundings. The titletrack was co-written by former ‘Higher Purpose’ bandmate Tabitha. In late summer 2010 the EP was withdrawn and radio-deejays were asked to stop playing the EP, as the band felt the music no longer suited their new direction.
Known unreleased (and probably unrecorded) tracks from this period are:

- The Blues.
- Attitude.
- Carry The Day.

Notes:
After winning the ‘Grote Prijs van Nederland’ section Singer/Songwriter, Eefje didn’t use the studio time she won, as her poartner at the time had his own studio @ famous Bullet Sound Studios. Inbetween pl;aying live, she concentrated on recording her debut-CD with Marcel and a busload of others. Early december 2010 saw the first release of these sessions as a digital download, consisting of the first three tracks. After the release of her album, the EP appeared in CD-shape, with an extra track, recorded by Eefje and her elder brother Paul, who also produced her first demos in 2002 and 2003.

‘Herinneringendingen’ reminds of some of her earliest recordings and is either an unreleased ‘SAM’ track, or a last session with the two other members of this trio.

After trio ‘SAM’ split up, Eefje concentrated on her study (Composing & Arrangements, Guitar) at Tilburg based ‘Rock Academy’ and switched from Jazz back to Singer/Songwriter, changing from English to Dutch at trhe same time. She decided to register for annual ‘Grote Prijs van Nederland’ early 2009 and recorded this EP with her then-partner Marcel Tegelaar (Skiggy Rapz), who won the same contest in 2003 in the category Hip-Hop/R’n’B. Though slightly sparser arranged, the EP clearly indicated the direction she would go with her 2011 album.

A 2010 version of this EP has different artwork on it's CD and a resequensed tracklisting:
1. Hartslag.
2. Hier Zijn.
3. Kantlijn.

Notes:
Second demo, solo this time, showcasing her musical progress. Some tracks are just sketches, while most are full grown songs. Few copies made and spread among family, some friends and for broadcast purposes on local radio. An offer by brother Paul to remaster these tracks was blocked on the insistance of Eefje early 2010, at which point it was also decided to shelve these demos from further radio use.
‘Living Your Life’ and ‘Untitled’ were performed live June 20th and December 29th 2004 as duets with local singer Desiree Coumans on local radio.

As all tracks are untitled, the unknown tracks are alternatively titled and marked with*.
The papersleeve the CD came in, contains the following, handwritten tracklist, which doesn’t suit the actual CD-tracklisting:
1. Vrede Voeren (Ac).
2. Please Let Me Say (Ac).
3. Please Let Me Say (Arr 1).

Eefje de Visser - Demo (2002).

Band: Eefje de Visser.
Title: Demo.
Released: Unreleased, September 2002.
Label: No label.
Genre: Si-So

Personell:  Eefje de Visser (Vocals, Acoustic Guitar).
Additional personell: Paul de Visser (Keyboards, Guitars, Drumprogramming.
Production, recording, mix & mastering: Paul de Visser @ homestudio.

Tracklisting:
1. Bussum*.
2. Everything*.
3. Stay On The Right Track*.

4. <Untitled Instrumental>*.
5. Show My World*.
6. Things I Do (aka Good Girl).
7. <Untitled instrumental> (Why Do It)*.

8. Vrede (Lyrics: Leo Vroman).

Notes:
Eefje started playing guitar and singing at the age of 12, performing for family and during musical nights at her school. Her first public performance was on Saturday July 1st 2000, when she performed a cover of Tory Amos with a friend during the ‘Moordrecht 2000’-festival in the village, where she grew up.
After this, she started writing her own material and performing at school and at ‘Zing’: annual choral singing days, organised by her father in ‘Vredenburg’ Utrecht.
This demo contains the first studiorecordings of her, brother Paul produced in his home studio, which was under construction at that point. Approximately 5 CD-R copies were made and spread among members of her family. This copy was given to me for the purpose of radio-broadcasting. An offer by brother Paul to remaster these tracks was blocked on the insistance of Eefje early 2010, at which point it was also decided to shelve these demos from further radio use.
Most of the arrangements were made by Paul and are mainly Funk and R’n’B-styled, though ‘Bussum’ already contains sounds and styles familiair with that of her debut album of 2011. ‘Things I Do’ was arranged as a complete track, which was used for her performance with schoolband ‘Temporary’, with whom she won the first edition of ‘Goudsche Courant Live Music Awards’ in 2003.
As all tracks are untitled, the unknown tracks are alternatively titled and marked with*.

Piano and vocal demo-EP, with lyrics that touch subjects from daily life, like illness, dementia, not wanting to get out of bed and growing up kids. Musical style refers to the cabaretesque songtradition of the late 60's untill 1990's. Emerged as suddenly as she sank back in oblivion. Still active though. Unknown number of CD-R copies made.

6. Mr Lee.
7. Panzer Division Bad Wurm.

Notes:
Debut-EP by one of the most original bands from the last 15 years. Blending bits of different stylesw in layers and cut-ups, one song could very well start as Black Metal, ending up in Lynyrd Skynnyrd-like Southers Rock, after a middle Eight-like bridge. Slightly directionless produced demo, which doesn’t get the most out of the material, talking with former members years later. Artwork by local graffity-artist Rasta. Album title was a persiflage/Counterpart to ‘The Beatles’ famed White Album.
